About COV

NDPChurch of the Valley~Corvallis is not a place, building or organization. We are a Body with many diverse parts that comes together to pray, to love and care for one another, and to walk out a common vision for our city and the mid-Willamette Valley of Oregon. 1991 saw the formal birth of the “Church of the Valley” at the first annual Leaders Prayer Summit. We grew into a regional movement of prayer and unity involving the five towns in our region, Jefferson, Albany, Lebanon, Philomath and Corvallis. In 1999, this movement de-centralized, and a leadership team was appointed for Corvallis. Though COV~Corvallis is cross-denominational, we are joined at the heart by our core values.

Every Thursday, a variety of leaders involved in COV~Corvallis meet for prayer and celebration of God’s amazing grace. Pastors, youth pastors, worship minstrels, leaders of kingdom organizations, campus ministries, women leaders and prayer warriors join to intercede for Corvallis and Benton County, its leaders, residents and needs. Alongside this on-going investment of prayer, COV~Corvallis expresses care for the physical needs of people through Love INC, a compassion “clearing house” supported by approximately forty local congregations and other kingdom organizations. While each church and ministry in our city has its distinctive gift and calling, we have been asking since 1999: “What must we do better together that we can’t do on our own?” When Christ’s Body comes into increased health through “oneness,” every part works as God designed it, all gifts become operative, and God’s favor brings increased synergy to our labors to seek the lost and serve the least in Corvallis.

Our Mission

  • To be a praying, united community of Jesus’ disciples walking together in love, demonstrating the reality of our oneness in Christ, “so that the world may believe” (Jn. 17:21-23).
  • To engage the whole church to disciple the whole city with the whole gospel of Jesus Christ (Mt. 28:19), proclaiming the good news in word and demonstrating Christ’s compassion through good deeds (1 Pet. 2:12).

Our Vision

Core motivations at the heart of COV~Corvallis:

  1. On the level of obedience, leaders involved accept the biblical revelation of a united Body of Christ walking and working together in a geographical context. Building relational trust, praying for and encouraging one another, and working together on kingdom endeavors increases our “oneness” in Jesus Christ.
  2. On the level of practicality, we find ourselves in a minority position in a culture very indifferent to, and sometimes hostile toward the gospel and the Church. We need to support and encourage one another.
  3. On the level of vision, involved leaders share a common purpose: to see Corvallis touched and transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ.

On-going Activities of COV~Corvallis

Our Theological Foundation

COV~Corvallis ascribes to the statement of doctrine of the National Association of Evangelicals.

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  • We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Core Values

  • honoring & preferring one another in Christ
  • soaking all we are and do in prayer
  • one Church in the city expressed in diverse congregations
  • our laboring will be informed by listening
  • mutual submission under the Lordship of Christ
  • diversity of leadership
  • a heart to reach the lost
  • utter dependence on God
